CG Power Solutions UK chooses Hewden for crane and plant hire on major London Gateway power and Scottish wind farm projects.

In the latest phase of a growing relationship, CG Power Solutions UK has selected Hewden, the national, multi-product hire specialist, to provide plant and equipment hire plus site support for a number of major power installation contracts.

These contract wins by CG Power Solutions include the London Gateway port development by DP World, where in Phase 1, the company will be responsible for the Coryton Tee-off, taking power from the nearby Coryton power station, which primarily feeds Coryton refinery, and delivering the power to the groundworks site for the new container port terminal.

Construction is now underway, with dredging and new land creation taking place alongside the development of key infrastructure, at the site which is the UK’s newest deep-sea container port combined with Europe’s largest logistics park, 25 miles east of central London.

Situated on the north bank of the River Thames, London Gateway provides unrivalled deep-sea shipping access and will ensure ships load and unload as fast as possible. The port will be the most efficient in the country, adding an additional 3.5million TEU (standard twenty foot equivalent cargo units (containers) to the nation’s port capacity. In addition to a major deep-sea port, London Gateway will integrate with Europe’s largest logistics park and will offer units up to and in excess of one million square feet.

London Gateway is owned by DP World, one of the world’s largest marine terminal operators, with 49 terminals worldwide.

Already on site, CG Power Solutions Sales Director, Mr Charles Birchall commented: "We will be making full use of our in house design and assembly facilities, as well as project managing critical sub systems and other suppliers. This is one of the largest power delivery projects currently running in the South East and we are delighted to have been selected."

"To deliver on time, we will need the full support of partnership suppliers like Hewden who understand the timescales and the vital importance of health and safety on these projects."

In addition to the London Gateway project, CG Power Solutions has appointed Hewden to provide plant hire and crane hire support for all wind farm projects.

These projects involve Hewden carrying out a series of difficult lifting operations for the associated package sub stations. The lifting involves the positioning of each of the units at the base of each turbine.

Commenting on these projects, a Hewden spokesperson said:

"CG Power Solutions is a fast growing and leading expert in transmission and distribution installation projects. There is a growing relationship with Hewden and we are now supporting CG on an increasing number of energy installation projects around the UK."

These projects follow on from the success of the Bellwind offshore power generation project in 2010 where CG Power Solutions was an important supplier.
