For the second year running, hire firm Hewden has won the RoSPA Gold Award from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) in recognition of its robust health and safety practices at each of its 63 depots across the UK.

The company is using this award win to highlight the ongoing importance of health and safety as Hewden’s health and safety manager, Martin Williams explains:

"At Hewden, safety is paramount and we work hard to make sure that the welfare of our customers and our employees comes first; an initiative, which we see reflected across the industry with major injuries falling by up to 17% in construction over the past quarter. *

"This means that common reported incidents, such as slips and trips or falling from height are being reduced and we are keen to support our customers to make sure that this positive trend continues.

"Hewden was the first hire company in the UK to achieve the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 accreditations at every location, not just at head office level. This latest Gold Award win further demonstrates our commitment to a consistent standard of health and safety both onsite and within the work place."

"In practice, this means that every operator or service engineer that is working on a customer’s site adheres fully to the company’s safety principles, including full pre-task assessments – no matter where the work is taking place.

"In addition, before a machine is delivered, it is checked and inspected on two separate occasions for safety and reliability, so the likelihood of a fault occurring is minimal; meaning our customers can be confident that the equipment is safe and fit for purpose."
