Hewden Recognised at PR Week Awards 2007

Hewden, the UK's largest plant-hirer was on stage again this week to pick up yet another accolade for one of its ongoing CSR initiatives.

This time, the plant-hire giant was hailed at the prestigious PR Week Awards 2007 for its excellent work in communicating the Control of Noise at Work regulations - winning the Best Marketing Communications: Business Award.

Held this year at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London on Wednesday 24th October, the awards celebrate best practice in all areas of the UK communications industry.

In April 2006, new regulations were introduced addressing noise levels in the workplace. The regulations caused widespread concern within the construction industry in terms of what the regulations actually meant and how they would effect day-to-day operations.

Hewden teamed up with B2B PR consultancy Kinross + Render to develop a fully integrated PR and marketing campaign called "Shout About Noise", offering expert advice on the new regulations but in a clear and simple manner.

As part of the campaign, Hewden developed and distributed safety posters and pocket guides, and spoke on compliance to the new regulations at various trade shows and events. The two primary messages were that if you have to shout to be heard, then the noise you make is above recommended levels, and that correct plant and tool selection and ear defenders can significantly reduce the risk of hearing damage.

Jeff Schofield, Head of Marketing at Hewden said: "Health and safety is of paramount importance to Hewden. We wanted to produce an eye-catching campaign that addressed a serious issue in a memorable manner - this award proves we achieved just that."
