In the run up to this year's London marathon, The Mall in Westminster was a hive of activity, with national, multi-product hire specialist Hewden providing a range of machines to ensure that the stage was set for one of the world's biggest running events.
With over 35,000 participants tackling the 26.2 mile course, it was essential that the finishing line and surrounding facilities were in place and that the route was prepared, safe and secure.
London Marathon plc was able to hire all of the necessary plant and equipment from just one local Hewden depot, in Wokingham, reducing transport costs and emissions. A combination of rough terrain forklift trucks, five telehandlers and two cherry pickers were supplied.
The equipment was used for a variety of activities, including the positioning of barriers, moving and placement of the portable toilet facilities as well as helping with the erection of the finish line.
Andrew Smith, deputy operations manager for London Marathon plc said: "Timing is the key element to this job and Hewden didn't fail. The delivery times and collection were first class, ensuring the smooth running of the site"
