As a qualified Service Engineer you can expect to service, maintain and repair many different types of equipment such as excavators, dozers, cranes, dump trucks, generators and many other types of equipment ranging from light to heavy machinery.
Service Engineers are concerned with the inspection and maintenance of engines, gearboxes and hydraulics, electrical systems and tyres. When a machine breaks down, Service Engineers have to examine it, identify the fault, remove the relevant section and repair or replace the faulty parts. They then have to reassemble and test the machine to make sure it is working safely and correctly.
Service Engineers use a range of hand and power tools and may also use specialist computer diagnostics equipment, as well as welding equipment and lifting gear.
