Wherever there is a Hewden Depot they are intrinsically a part of that community. These communities provide us with business and as a company we have a duty to put something back. This is why in addition to our support for the Lighthouse Club for Construction workers, we also support many other charities on a local, national and international level. But it’s not just about giving money, we also offer tools, resources and encouragement to members of staff and clients who are trying to make a positive difference.


Hewden sponsored a team of Taylor Woodrow employees £250 who successfully competed the 3 Peaks Challenge in May.


Colleagues in Hewden’s Credit Control Team raised £1293.71 over the course of 2007 for their chosen charity Francis House Children’s Hospice. They did various fundraising activities including selling Easter gifts, held Breakfast Clubs and Raffles.


Claire Cobourne, Senior Hire Controller raised over £725 by taking part in a 10 mile midnight walk in May 2008 for Sue Ryder Care - Thorpe Hall Peterborough. Claire was one of the 750 women who took part and she completed the walk in three hours.


Hewden’s registered charity is the Lighthouse Club, keepers of ‘The Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund’. This is a registered charity dedicated to giving aid and assistance to construction workers and their families who suffer accident or ill health. Why not join with the Hewden team in recycling old or unwanted mobile phones – up to £10 per phone can go to the Lighthouse Club.


Following new legislation in 2006 that highlighted the dangers of noise in the workplace, Hewden pledged £1000 to support a kennel for one of the many dogs that the ‘Hearing Dogs Deaf People’ charity trains to support people with hearing difficulties.


For the past twelve years Hewden Head Office in Tannochside has been raising money for the Cash for Kids, a charity that helps underprivileged and disabled children in the Clyde area. Last year they raised £3212.75 through a number of fund raising events including a raffle, an auction and a coffee morning.


After her father suffered a heart attack early last year Jeanette Lonsdale, HR Manager, decided to do the Great North Run to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. She raised over £1000 pounds. Happily her father made a full recovery and was given the ‘all clear’ this January.


Anna Yendall, Senior Hire Controller at Torquay Tools, (pictured on the right) ran the 5km Race for Life at the Westpoint Arena in Exeter last July. She raised £300 for Cancer Research in memory of her Granddad who died from cancer a few years ago.


Heather Brozio, Margaret McGibbon, Jacqueline Neeson, Nicola Reid, Caroline Hanna and Janis Penman from the Hewden Finance Team and Fleet Department completed the Strathclyde 5km Race for Life last summer. They raised £1,174 between them for Cancer Research.


Wayne Farrington, Sales Executive, did the London to Brighton cycle ride raising £500 for the British Heart Foundation. He’s planning on doing it again this year.

Stella Dorling, Administrator, and her friend Louise ran the race for life in aid of cancer research. They raised over £1000 between them.

Donna Fellows, Central Hire Office Manager, asked Hewden to sponsor her niece’s football team. Hewden were happy to help.

Hewden sponsored Stephen Baird, General Manager, to do a parachute jump to in aid of Macmillan Cancer Relief. Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions the jump has now been postponed three times. For some mad reason Stephen has rescheduled the jump for the 22nd April. Good Luck!


James Stone, son of Peter Stone, Manager at the Huddersfield Depot, walked the Pennine way to raise money for pump aid, a charity that provides pumps that supply clean water to villages in Africa. The 14 year old completed the 270 mile walk in 16 days and raised £700.


Andrew Marshall, Hire Manager, and eight friends did a sponsored coast to coast cycle ride from Whitehaven to Tynemouth in memory of a close friend who died from Motor Neurone Disease. They raised a total of £4808.50 which was sent to Pamela Shaw, head of the MND research team at Sheffield University.


Joan Williams, Operations Manager, ran the 5km Race for Life in May 2006. She raised over £300 for cancer research in memory of her father.

Hewden sponsored Elaine Gillies from clients Ewen Gillies Builders in Inverness. Elaine took part in a sponsored race to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care.


Brian Grieg and his wife Karen raised over £1500 for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Brian has his first hair cut in years (see picture) and Karen did a parachute jump. Both hair raising experiences!


Brian Waters, Brother-in-Law of Gareth Wilson, Manager at the Newport Depot, was made the 2006 captain of Dewstow Golf Club, near Chepstow in South Wales, and went about arranging a Captains Day to raise money for charity. Brian’s son, Rhys suffers from ADHT and therefore they donated the £2,318 raised to the British Institute for Brain Injured Children, a charity which has given them a lot of help and support.


Sara Biggs, EH & S Administrator is a volunteer worker for Coed Hirwaun Community Association and organises various events to raise money for community projects. So far she has organised barbeques, comedy nights, balloon races and a gardening competition.


After his wife died from cancer in 2001, George Cowan, Director of Used Equipment Sales, decided to combine her hobby, curling with fundraising for cancer charities. With his two daughters, Lisa and Laura, and the members of the Lesmahagow Curling Club organised an annual Bonspiel (curling tournament) and tombola. The event, which has been running since 2002 attracts over 200 curlers and has raised in excess of £67,000 to date.


Julie Ayres, wife of Paul, Depot Manager at Long Hanborough Depot, ran the Race For Life at Waddesdon Manor in May 2006. She raised £240 for Cancer Research in memory of hew mother who died of cancer three years ago.


Staff across the company put in a huge effort to help raise £2600 for BBC's Children in Need 2006. There were fancy dress competitions, raffles and cake sales amongst many other things.

In May, Leslie Gough is doing an 18 mile walk to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care. This is in memory of her late husband and former Warrington Depot Manager, Terry.

Jane Fletcher is doing the Race for Life this year to raise money for Cancer Research in memory of her late father, Terry Gough, former Depot Manager at Warrington.


Hewden will be sponsoring Baby Lifeline's Little People's Great Big Party. Baby Lifeline are challenging 40,000 toddlers and children under the age of eight to throw their own great big party with help from Coronation Street actress Kate Ford. The party's will be held simultaneously on 26th April, during Baby Lifeline’s National Mother and Baby Week®.


A group from of intrepid adventurers from the Stoke-on-Trent depot climbed the highest peaks in each of England, Wales and Scotland in a single 24 hour period. They raised £2111.90 for the Donna Louise Trust, a large hospice for terminally ill children close to the depot.


Hewden donated £100 to the 1st Bongay Sea Scouts in Suffolk. There target was to raise £2,200 and picture show them doing a street collection which raised £700.


Hewden sponsored Under 15 Athletics hopeful, Shanice Burch, daughter of Nick, Depot Manager at Kings Lynn, £100. She was able to by two pairs of running spikes to help her compete across the country in 2006.


Ian Deakin, Safety Advisor for clients Wood Group did a parachute jump and raised £1500 for the RNLI.
